Tracy Roach is an artist living in Oaxaca, Mexico. She studies with local artists, learning from a linage of painters, sculptors, ceramicists, and printmakers that thrives in the cities and villages of this culturally rich part of Mexico.
She currently is learning from the community of artists at Burro Press and Taller La Chicharra, including Ivan Bautista, Edith Chavez, Mk Kabrito, Marcos Lucero, Alberto Cruz, and Dario Castellejos, who are among the best of Oaxaca's printmakers and artists. She has had the pleasure of studying with renowned Mexican artists Gabriel Palencia Macotela and Paloma Torres at Centro de las Artes de San Agustin, Etla and at Taller Canela with Claudio Lopez and his associates, also in San Agustin.
In the US, Tracy has studied at is183 Art School of the Berkshires with Paula Shalan, Yura Adams, Pat Hogan, and Philip Howie. Her artistic spirit guide is the late artist and educator Edward Jacamo. And, her husband, artist Richard Michaels, infuses life with the art spirit and loving critique.
While in Oaxaca, Tracy also teaches English and Creative Expression at Espacio de Apoyo Educativo and Instituto De Integración Y Asesoría Comunitaria IIAC A.C., along with coaching individual artists in English skills so that they may effectively market their work. Many of her hours are spent nosing around the mercados of Mexico, learning more Spanish, and taking photos of the cantera and corrugated metal walls of Oaxaca.
When not in Mexico or traveling elsewhere in the world, Tracy can be found in the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts or the middle of the mitten in Alma, Michigan.
